Chapter Thirteen
Alex
Sleep took forever to come last night. All I could think about was Jake and that damn black car. Ugh. Iâm sure my appearance is showing it today, because Abby was able to pick up on it immediately. She teased me all day, begging for answers and details. Telling me to just put her out of her misery. We agreed to have a girls night. I needed some time to just let loose, and so did she. Work has been kicking our asses lately since theyâve been piling group after group on us. Which is good, considering so many have become interested in attending groups and getting the help they need.
Thankfully, the group tonight was quick and easy. Jake was bummed that he wouldnât get to see me tonight, but when I explained that Abby and I needed a girls night he didnât argue. It was different. I was prepared to argue with him over it, a habit that is hard to break I guess because thatâs what I always had to do with Chris.
But Jake was so understanding. Said he got it and hoped we had fun. Even told me to call him if we got too wasted and couldnât drive home.
I really want to lay down for a nap, but instead I'm getting ready for our girls night. We have decided to stay in Evansville tonight, in case we drink too much. We can get home easier this way without the long drive.
Tomorrow is Chaosâ wedding and Iâm excited and nervous at the same time. I have my dress picked out, a soft blue with a floral print across the front. The neckline is high, but it still packs a certain sex appeal. Jake said he was wearing jeans and a blazer so I figured this would match fine and will drive him crazy at the same time.
When Abby and I walk through the sports bar entrance, the lights are dim. Itâs a different vibe here, nothing like what you would expect. There are still TVs lining the walls with various sporting events on and a dance floor in the middle with several moving to the beat. What you donât expect is the techno music blaring through the speakers hanging from the beams.
âLetâs get a table,â Abby shouts loud enough for me to hear, leading me towards the hostess table.
âParty for two?â the woman asks. Abby nods and we follow her through the crowd to a booth near the bar. Sliding into our seats, I scan the room but donât recognize anyone.
She places the menus down in front of us, both silent as we look through what sounds good. All I know is I need something in my stomach to soak up the alcohol I'm about to consume. A waiter stops by our table, heâs flirty, but harmless. We order our food and a few drinks.
âLetâs dance while we wait for our food.â I nod in agreement. Abby grabs my hand and I run after her to the center of the dance floor.
